The Prestige

Um dos grandes mestres da construção narrativa não cronologicamente linear, Chris Nolan (Memento), realizou este filme, mais uma vez, muito bem estruturado. Sendo um filme sobre magia e mágicos, a estrutura tenta ser fiel aos três actos da magia (pledge, turn e prestige), as pistas são dadas no momento certo e as reviravoltas com as revelações são cerejas no topo do bolo. Para além disto, junta-se duas excelentes interpretações (Hugh Jackman e Christian Bale) que conseguem abafar a radiosa Scarlett Johansson.
A história refere-se a dois ilusionistas, antigos companheiros de palco, que agora rivalizam entre si para criar a ilusão mais perfeita e garantir o maior sucesso de público. Mas o que os move a tentar superar continuamente o outro, e os leva a fazer literalmente tudo para o conseguir, é mais do que um desejo de brilhar, é uma obsessão.

Cutter (Michael Cain): "Are you watching closely? Every great magic trick consists of three parts or acts. The first part is called "The Pledge". The magician shows you something ordinary: a deck of cards, a bird or a man. He shows you this object. Perhaps he asks you to inspect it to see if it is indeed real, unaltered, normal. But of course... it probably isn't. The second act is called "The Turn". The magician takes the ordinary something and makes it do something extraordinary. Now you're looking for the secret... but you won't find it, because of course you're not really looking. You don't really want to know. You want to be fooled. But you wouldn't clap yet. Because making something disappear isn't enough; you have to bring it back. That's why every magic trick has a third act, the hardest part, the part we call "The Prestige".
